The region of Samana is undoubtedly currently the most desired in the Dominican Republic.
The intense beauty of its beaches is only recently easily accessible to locals and foreigners, with the opening of El Catey International Airport and the forthcoming entry of the new highway will link with Santo Domingo to Samana. In fact this road will allow the 72 kilometres separating the city of Samana Bay is filled so fast, that surely the beaches of Samana become the favourite of residents in the capital.
Prior to these two major infrastructure projects, few Dominicans could see personally the mythical beaches of Samana Bay, Las Terrenas and Las Galeras, all in the area. The few who were fortunate to get there, they had to endure a journey of more than 5 hours by road less than ideal. And for international visitors, the only motivator to explore the area was the unique opportunity to witness the mating rituals of hundreds of humpback whales, which at its annual migration along the planet have chosen this beautiful spot to procreate. Without the above demerits, Samana remained isolated and untouched for a long time and now presents itself to the world at large, protected under stringent development standards to ensure their preservation.
