History

Dominican Republic was the first point of contact with Columbus' in America in his trip to India. In fact Samana was fought in the famous Battle of the Arrows, which led to Columbus and his fleet to return to the sea and seek a new point to reach land, Santo Domingo.

The Dominican soil was the first point of landing of the European settlers, the country developed faster than all its neighbours and saw the rise of Americas the first cathedral, like the first University, the first European road and the first fortress. It seems that early discovery sowed the destination for what is now the Dominican Republic, a modern country and a leader in social and economic development in the region.

At various stages in the history of the Dominican Republic, went from being an island inhabited by tribes of Indians Tainos, then occupied by European colonizers who brought slavery in Africa. The country was the domain for Spanish, French, Haitian occupation, American, an era of dictatorship and since then a peaceful democracy.
Today Dominican Republic has a system of government stable and democratic election, with broad participation from all sectors of national life and high legitimacy.

Dominican Republic is presented to the world as a symbol of peace and cradle of the best baseball players and composers of merengue, bachata and reggaeton.
